Wednesday evenings are about to get a lot better. We’re heading back to Sycamore Creek for a casual, fun-first 9-hole league. No stress, just good swings and better company.
We have 17 dates on the books. Our goal is to get at least 16 rounds in, giving us a little wiggle room for the season.
When: Every Wednesday, May 6th through August 26th.
Where: Sycamore Creek (1991 Manakin Rd, Manakin-Sabot, VA).
Tee Times: 4:00/ 4:08 / 4:16
We’re moving to a "Commissioner-Managed" system this year. This keeps the pro shop happy, secures our standing tee times, and ensures nobody gets stuck with a random price at the counter.
1. The One-Time League Buy-In ($20)
Due Date: March 15th (This locks in your spot).
The Purpose: This acts as our "League Security Fund." Because the club requires us to pay for full foursomes (e.g., if 7 show up, we still owe for 8), this covers any unexpected gaps.
The Bonus: Any money left in this pot at the end of August goes straight toward food and drinks for the season finale!
2. The Weekly Green Fee $45
The Process: Do not pay at the pro shop. To avoid confusion with different staff members charging different rates, everyone will Venmo the Commissioner directly. * The Rate: is #35 regular green fees, but $5 for a standing tee time
3. The Weekly Game Pot ($5)
The Fun: Every week, we’ll run a casual game.
The Payout: We aim for at least half the group to win something, paying out the top 3 spots. It’s all about the "fun-factor."
🌧️ The Rain Policy
No play, no pay. We are not on the hook for fees if the course is closed or if we have to cancel due to weather. If it’s a wash-out, you keep your cash.
The Spreadsheet: We’ll share a season-long spreadsheet. Claim your dates early! Please don't use it as a "placeholder"—we use these numbers to tell the club exactly how many tee times we need.
Weekly Commits: The week before, you must have paid the commish your $45 to play the next week. For example, you will pay by Friday, May 1, to play on Wed may 6. This allows the commish to let the clubhouse know how many teetimes we need.
The Pairings: To keep things social, we use the Picker Wheel to draw random foursomes every week.
The Handicap: This is a handicapped league. We’ll use GHIN and/or our internal league app to track strokes and keep the playing field level.
The Payour Part Deux: we will convene after the round in the pavilion (that is the grand name for the shelter they have, and as you sip on your post-round beverages, The commish, and his man Raj will frantically be doing some creative accounting. But all results will be declared, monies paid out, and score cards ripped up on the spot.
